Meet Our Instructors

Choose Class

We have some wonderful instructors and I'd like to introduce a few of them to you:

Carol Evans teaches crochet. During the 70’s, she owned a yarn shop called The Hen House! It was years ahead of it's time. Carol describes herself as a "people person" and enjoys teaching crochet. She's a terrific lady who just happens to be Jo's Mom.

Susan Cain is teaching our felting class. As a nurse, Susan has a lot of experience in teaching others. Susan began knitting a few years ago and has not slowed down since! Knitting has become her passion along with her precious dog, Maggie (who we've adopted as the official shop dog). We are thrilled to have Susan with us!

Belva Hinshaw has a natural talent for knitting and will be teaching our sock class. She has the patience and expertise (along with a great sense of humor) to create these small masterpieces. Belva is a nurse who took up knitting several years ago and has completed many gorgeous pieces. She has two beautiful daughters who appear to be as talented as she is! Thankfully, we have Belva to lead our 'Soaring Socks' class.

Knits and PurlsAnn Marie Gilchrist joined Knit Picky in August 2006 and is a terrific addition to the staff. Originally from Canton, Ohio, Ann Marie is a Notre Dame graduate, has studied in Japan, and is an avid knitter! A friend introduced her to knitting in 2001. Since then, she has made everything from socks to skirts! She has a fun sense of style and we are lucky to have her with us at Knit Picky. See some of her current projects on her blog (click icon to the right).

Sammie Jo Thomas, will be teaching a variety of classes. She was introduced to needlework as a child but was too busy to learn very much! As she grew, her Mother Jo taught me the basics of crochet. On her Dad's side of the family, she watched her grandmother create beautiful needlepoint pieces. She began knitting as an adult about 16 years ago. At first, she tried to teach herself but soon learned she could benefit from classes and signed up at a shop! She was hooked. The classes were great fun and she has been knitting and having fun ever since.

Laura Bullins is a little bit obsessed with knitting, working at Knit Picky and messing around with the blog. She loves color work and has recently discovered the joys of lace (but so far only with regular weight yarns!). She teaches classes on color work, crocheted pigs and any other odds and ends Jo tosses her way. Laura loves experimenting and trying new techniques. She will knit anything once! Her website is here and she also is in charge of our blog.
